Months ago this novel was on the NYtimes’ list of top graphic novels. I finally got around to reading it over the wkend and I definitely agree that this is a must must must read.

Asterios Polyp is an American graphic novel by David Mazzucchelli. The main character, of the same name, is a respected architect. After lightning strikes down and burns his place of living, Asterios decides to board a greyhound to Apogee, NY and gets a job as an auto repair mechanic, this all seemingly on a whim. All the while the novel is diffused with scenes from his past.
The novel explores the duality of people’s nature mostly through Greek mythology and the Gods, which was most fitting. Narrated by Asterios dead twin brother, I turned the last page wondering what if any can be a "shadow of the living world", and if there is even a need for one.
Also, I should not fail to mention how the drawings are done in such great taste and ever so appropriate for this stimulating read.

“Every memory, no matter how remote its subject, takes place ‘now’, at the moment its called up in the mind. The more something is recalled the more the brain has a chance to refine the original experience, because every memory is a re-creation, not a playback”.
